Nintendo Wii Intercooler
By Gadget Reviews | October 8, 2008

The Intercooler for Wii is a high efficiency, snap-on cooling device for your Wii. It uses 3 fans to increase air flow, reducing heat to promote better performance for your Wii. It snaps onto the console & fits easily inside your entertainment center in a horizontal or vertical position. The Wii Intercooler turns on and off automatically, in conjunction with the Wii system.
User Ratings and Reviews
1 Star L-O-U-D!
Works well enough it’s just way too loud. I’m not sure the decible rating but if the stanard noise from a Wii is a 10 out of 100, I would say that this thing bumps it up to a 30 out of 100. I thought I would use this to prolong the life of my Wii but it’s so loud that I have had to disconnect it.
A special note of interest is that this runs even when the Wii is in offline/lowpower mode connected to Wii forecast and news (you know, when the amber light is on). This of course is a huge minus for those who leave their Wii in this mode.
5 Stars Worth the investment
I have owned my Wii for almost a year now, and have had it repaired twice due to heat related damage. This time I invested a few bucks into this cooler, and have not had any further problems with the console overheating. Yes, the fan is a bit loud, but if you do not leave the WiiConnect 24 feature on standby it’s not an issue. During game play I can hardly hear the fan. I would rather spend a few bucks on a loud cooling fan and save my the rest of my money for games, instead of repairs.
4 Stars Works very well even if your WII internal fan is broken
I purchased this product because my Wii Internal fan had ceased to function and the Wii would automatically shut off after about an hour of play in this state. With this fan that is never again a problem and I can leave the Wii on for as long as I want. It’s pretty funny that half these reviews say the fan is loud and half say it’s quiet: to perhaps settle the issue I’ll say it’s not EXTREMELY loud like a buzzing prop plane to the point that you are going to hear it above your video game music, but it is considerably louder than the standard Wii fan and will produce a notable ambient hum that will punch through especially on parts of hte game with no sound. Nothing too major, but definately noticeably louder than the regular Wii fan.
5 Stars Best 15 bucks I’ve spent this year.
Before buying this fan, my Wii would overheat and shut down after an hour of play. Very frustrating! The kids were nagging me to send it in for repair but I dreaded the process and the expense. Then I stumbled upon this little gadget and it’s the best $15 I’ve spent all year. The Wii hasn’t overheated once since we got the fan, and it’s on for 6 or 7 hours at a time. All you have to do is plug it into the back of the Wii and you’re done. Don’t listen to the complaints of it being too loud. The only time we notice the noise is when the house is completely quiet, and even then, it’s just a whirring/humming noise. During game play you can’t hear it at all. I highly recommend this to anyone who has overheating problems with their Wii.
